About

Alexaiya Backman grew up in the mountains of Maine, and started riding at a young age under a natural horsemanship trainer who specialized in retraining rescue horses. Learning natural horsemanship helped Alexaiya develop a great “feel” on and off the horse.

Alexaiya later went on to attend and graduate from Johnson and Wales University for Equine Business Management and riding in 2015. Additionally in 2015 Alexaiya studied in Germany to attain her Small and Large German Bronze medals. After earning her german medals Alexaiya went on to study and work under multiple US and German FEI riders, training through 4th level. Alexaiya continues to train regularly with Silver Medalist and L judge Krystal Wilt.

In 2019, Alexaiya trained her horse Flora (JC: Shezerfirst) and competed successfully in the 2019 Thoroughbred Makeover in Lexington, Kentucky. Flora is now eventing with her new mom!

Last year Alexaiya attended the 2021 Makeover with her mare Ember (JC: Allgussiedup) finishing 15th with a score of 74.3%. Additionally Alexaiya obtained her second level scores for her US Bronze medal with her pony Bodie (Bouton Rouge). Bodie now has a new home is SC and will continue his training in dressage!

In 2022 Alexaiya plans on continuing her training with her mare Ember up through the levels of dressage as well as expand her knowledge by attending clinics and seminars.

Alexaiya’s Training Philosophy: 

Work on becoming a mindful and more effective rider at every level, with focus on body mechanics to create a more balanced and symmetric horse and rider for all disciplines.
Learn a system that creates a more responsive flexible and adjustable horse to improve any discipline all while adding tools to help you in any situation.
Whether you are working your way up the levels or looking to resolve holes in your "basics" all riders and horses will benefit.

Alexaiya Backman has extensive experience in multiple disciplines including dressage, western, and jumping as well as retraining off the track thoroughbreds, and specializes in “problem” horses. 

Services

Lessons

$70 per hour Lessons are offered in Scottsville, NY at Skyfall Hill farm or at your own farm or place of boarding. Proof of Insurance is offered upon request.

Training Rides

Training rides are offered at $60 per ride.

Clinics

From the ground up training, horse and rider body mechanics, and western and traditional dressage as well as hunters on the flat and jumping clinics are offered. Please contact directly to schedule!

2021 Thoroughbred Makeover

Ember is now a Thoroughbred Makeover Graduate finishing 15th in dressage in a very competitive discipline with a 74.3% in Training level test 2

8/14/21
Ember has had many firsts this weekend, first long trailer ride (3 hours), first over night, and first clinic! She was super the whole weekend and everyone fell in love with her! Big shoutout to Clinician Holly Parker and Finger Lake Equestrian Center for the lovely time!

8/9/21
Ember has officially participated in her first rated show. Earning a whooping 71.5% at Training Level Test 1 and a 69.9% at Training Level Test 2!! Both were blue ribbon rides!

Ember has successfully gone to her first off property schooling experience and scored a 64% on her Training level 1 test and a 60% on her training level 2 test! For more updates on Alexaiya and Allgussiedup follow our Instagram @aebdressag !

ALLGUSSIEDUP (Ember)
Ember is a 2017 chestnut mare out of Danza - U.K Girl by Tiger Ridge. She retired after 2 races in early 2020 with earnings of $970.
What Ember lacked on the race track she makes up for in the dressage ring. Her naturally balanced and uphill confirmation make it easy to see how she will become successful in her second career.
Alexaiya and Ember are currently gearing up for show season in preparation for the 2021 RRP Thoroughbred Makeover this October. We are so lucky to have our wonderful sponsor Ploughman’s Saddlery and Belts help us make the journey possible
Although Ember was originally intended to be a sales horse Alexaiya has decided to give her, her forever home right her at AEB Dressage!
